HOUSE CAPTAINS

Role Statement:
  • House Vice/Captains will work alongside S.E.C. (Student Executive Committee)/S.R.C. (Student Representative Council) and the broader school community to provide leadership in a collaborative and democratic manner whilst working towards achieving whole school improvement.

Application Criteria:
  • Year 7 students only

  • A self-nomination ballot system is conducted towards the end of each school year targeting Year 6 students moving in to Year 7 in each of the school team houses (Pelicans/Sandpipers/Seagulls/Herons)

  • All students are eligible to apply for the position as a team House Captain and must present to their peers a written/verbal statement outlining their character strengths, leadership and organisational capabilities

  • Outgoing House Captains and house team representatives vote for the students in years 5 & 6 most likely to best represent their cohort addressing the responsibilities listed below and give them a ‘student voice’ and leadership in our school

  • Each house elects 1 Male and 1 Female Captain with runners up declared Vice to the position

Student Requirements and Expectations:
  • House Captains are to attend all S.R.C. meetings during Weeks 3, 6 & 9 each term (with extra meetings scheduled by negotiation) to discuss issues relevant to the school. This meeting is run through the governance of the school coordinator and elected students to leadership in a collaborative and democratic manner whilst working towards achieving whole school improvement

  • House Vice/Captains are involved in: Sports Day and community events such as Remembrance Day, Coaching Roles e.g. Basketball, assist with the whole school ‘Buddies’ program and promote the school with interactive guided tours during Open Mornings visits

  • It is the duty of the House Captains to seek input from their class members and to report back following the scheduled meetings

Student Expectations:
  • Willing to work in a team or independently both during and outside of class learning time

  • Attend S.R.C. and team meetings

  • Consult with Leadership, staff, students, S.E.C./S.R.C. and the broader school community to create, promote and share strategies towards achieving whole school improvement
